Composite Event Detection in Active Databases and Distributed Systems

چکیده

This report summarizes how Snoop, a composite event detection language for active databases, and Sentinel, an implementation of Snoop, were designed and how one can model an ECA-Rule in Snoop. However, it shows also that, by means of the meta-model for event detection algebras, one can recognize that Snoop is not completely coherent and lacks of symmetry as well as of consistency. Moreover, it presents the approach of composite event detection in distributed systems such as in publisher/subscriber architectures as well as in the wide-area event notification service Siena in contrast to event detection in active databases.

Parallel Event Detection in Active Database Systems: The Heart of the Matter

This paper proposes a strategy for parallel composite event detection in Active database systems (DBS). Up to now, the detection is sequential and totally synchronized, and thus preserves the timely order of events during the detection process. However, in distributed and extensible applications events may occur simultaneously in parallel unsynchronized streams. In order to adapt composite even...

Monitoring the behaviour of distributed systems

Monitoring the behaviour of computing systems is an important task. In active database systems, a detected system behaviour leads to the triggering of an ECA (event-condition-action) rule. ECA rules are employed for supporting database management system functions as well as external applications. Although distributed database systems are becoming more commonplace, active database research has t...

Composite Events for Active Databases: Semantics, Contexts and Detection

Making a database system active entails developing an expressive event specification language with well-defined semantics, algorithms for the detection of composite events, and an architecture for an event detector along with its implementation. Thii paper presents the semantics of composite events using the notion of a global event history (or a global event-log). Parameter contexts are introd...

A Framework for Event Composition in Distributed Systems

For large-scale distributed applications such as internet-wide or ubiquitous systems, event-based communication is an effective messaging mechanism between components. In order to handle the large volume of events in such systems, composite event detection enables application components to express interest in the occurrence of complex patterns of events. In this paper, we introduce a general co...

Composite Event Speci cation in Active Database Systems: A Petri Nets Approach

Event detection is the rst and the most important step for Event-Condition-Action (ECA) rule execution in active database systems. Composite event detection is not easy for most existing active database systems. In this paper, a Conditional Colored Petri Net model (CCPN) is proposed for composite events speci cation and detection. Composite events are detected by checking composite transition e...
